The latest Windows 11 update introduces a function called Intelligent charging which aims to improve battery health in the long term. The function analyses usage habits and adjusts charging behaviour to minimise battery wear and tear. For example, charging can be stopped at around 80-85 % if a device remains connected to the power supply for long periods of time to prevent overcharging, which could affect battery life.
This function is particularly useful for laptops that are often permanently connected to the power supply. It can be activated in the settings under System > Energy & battery > Battery health where users can customise the options.
Other new features in the November 2024 update include improvements to the user interface, enhancements to the Phone Link app, customisable keyboard functions for the Copilot button and changes to system notifications and security settings. These updates illustrate Microsoft's efforts to further optimise user-friendliness and system efficiency.
