A VPN, short for "Virtual Private Network", is a technology that makes it possible to establish a secure and encrypted connection via the Internet. The aim is to protect confidential data from unauthorised access - especially if you are not working in a protected company network but from your home office, for example.
You have data. You don't want to lose them because they are important to you, either for legal reasons such as the ten-year retention obligation or because they are the many priceless memories from your childhood and past that you want to protect.
A mafia boss discovers that his accountant has cheated him out of 1 million. The accountant is deaf. The idea at the time was that a deaf accountant wouldn't be able to hear anything and therefore wouldn't be able to give evidence in court. When the boss wants to take on the accountant, he brings along his lawyer, who knows sign language.
The boss asks where the money is hidden.
The lawyer asks the question in sign language and the accountant signals back: "I don't know what you're talking about."
The lawyer replies to the boss: "He says he doesn't know what you're talking about."
The boss gets angry and pulls out a pistol, holds it to the accountant's head and says: "Ask him again!"
The lawyer signals to the accountant: "He'll kill you if you don't tell him."
The accountant signals back: "You've won, boss. The money is in the big envelope behind the filing cabinet in my office."
The boss asks his lawyer: "Well, what did he say?"
He replies: "He says you don't have the guts to pull the trigger."
