We all want to work and live securely. For all online accounts, 2-factor authentication goes a long way towards making them more secure.
Long standard for online banking logins, there are also more and more other online services for which "2FA" is mandatory. Apple's iCloud accounts and Google accounts have been equipped with "double security" for years, but this was previously optional for Microsoft. However, Microsoft has now announced that "2FA" (at least for school and work accounts) will soon be mandatory. 2FA makes perfect sense. Business accounts in particular are not sufficiently protected with "just" a password and should urgently be provided with "2FA". How does "2FA" work? In addition to the usual user name/email address and password query, a further component is requested. As a rule, this is a code generated at short notice, which you receive by SMS to a predefined mobile number, by e-mail to an alternative e-mail address that you have defined, or in a special app on the smartphone that has been set up for this account. The generated and received code is also entered and the login works. We strongly recommend setting up "2FA" for your M365 accounts. Die «2FA» macht durchaus Sinn. Gerade Geschäftskonten sind mit «nur» einem Passwort, zu wenig geschützt und sollten dringend mit «2FA» versehen werden.
Wie funktioniert «2FA»?
Nebst der üblichen Benutzername/E-Mailadresse und Passwortabfrage wird eine weitere Komponente abgefragt. In der Regel ist das ein kurzfristig generierter Code, welchen man
- per SMS auf eine vordefinierte Mobilenummer bekommt,
- per E-Mail auf eine alternative E-Mailadresse, welche man definiert hat,
- oder in einer speziellen App auf dem Smartphone, welche für dieses Konto eingerichtet wurde.
Der generierte und erhaltene Code wird zusätzlich noch eingegeben und das Login funktioniert.
