Latest version: Windows 10 already facing the end?

The end of an era. What was once supposed to be the "final version" of the Microsoft operating system will soon be history! Windows 10 will no longer be supplied with updates until the end of its life.

The launch of Windows 11 around two years ago signalled the end of Windows 10. Microsoft has now announced that no more updates will be released for Windows 10. In autumn 2025, Windows 10 will finally be consigned to history.

Is the switch to Windows 11 unavoidable?

With 22H2, Microsoft is delivering the latest and therefore final version. The update does not contain any new features and is merely a fine-tuning of the 21H2 version. After that, only security patches will follow until the end of support for Windows 10 on 14 October 2025, but no further updates.

At the same time, Windows 10 will follow in the footsteps of its predecessors Windows 7 and 8 and will be officially discarded.

After that, Microsoft will only provide its users with Windows 11 and the possible next version: Windows 12.

The mandatory switch to Windows 11 presents users with somewhat older devices with the unpleasant fact that Windows does not allow the update to Windows 11 due to the high hardware requirements.
